TXORIERRI LAUNCHES A PROJECT WHERE STUDENTS, IN COLLABORATION WITH EUROPEAN CENTRES, WILL WORK ON SOLUTIONS AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

Since 2007, Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri has been increasingly committed to internationalization, focusing on successful European initiatives to develop and implement best practices, as well as collaborating in different international programmes and initiatives. For years, we have been committed to improving our environmental behaviour, promoting actions aimed at making an efficient use of resources and minimizing waste generation in order to accomplish a more sustainable environmental performance. Nonetheless, our greatest challenge continues to be participation and awareness of students, as one of the main agents for a more sustainable society in the future.

Co-financed by the European Union, the main objective of Youth Climate Empowerment, one of Txorierri’s most recent European collaborations, is to create awareness among students so that they can actively participate in the fight against climate change.

During February, partners from the project met in Køge, Denmark to plan the exchange activity and to agree on the programme of the three-day session. For that purpose, between the 27th and 29th of September, Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri will host a total of 40 students and accompanying teachers from diverse Vocational Training centres from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

During the three-day session, the visiting students, together with the first year Baccalaureate students from Txorierri, will work on useful and real solutions for specific climate objectives that can be applicable to the centre and that are aimed towards the “Ideal Sustainable School“. Thus, in groups of five students, they will propose two climate objectives as well as they will present solutions that can be applied in their schools. They will also have the opportunity to visit Torre Madariaga and Urdaibai Bird Center, both located in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. This way, students from Txorierri will not only work with students from other cultures and will immerse in the English language, but they will also propose real and applicable solutions to the centre for fighting climate change.

With this project, Politeknika Txorierri aims to promote sustainable practices among its student body and involve them in the progress towards achieving a more sustainable school and society. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to work in a multicultural environment and learn from good European practices through their participation in mobility activities and visits to the partner schools.
