PARADIGM: PlAn for Green OppoRtunities: Be A Digital scIentific chanGeMaker (2021-2023) https://paradigmproject.eu/
PARADIGM is an Erasmus+ school education project coordinated by Txorierri. There are five other partners from different European countries: Croatian, Cyprus, Greece and Portugal. The project aims to use the appropriate technological infrastructure (devices, data platforms and tools) to empower the active engagement of citizens in taking action against climate change and for sustainable development through better monitoring and observing the environment and its environmental impacts. General objectives of PARADIGM project are:
- a) raising environmental awareness and active engagement in green initiatives,
- b) developing innovative STEM based curricula that cultivate transversal skills,
- c) upskilling teaching staff with novel educational methodology and tools,
- d) creating European Community of Citizen Science.
PARADIGM promotes innovative practices based on designing and developing the appropriate technological infrastructure coupled with selected learning scenarios that will be piloted by the network of European Schools of the PARADIGM community. Specifically, the purpose of the project is to train, lead and motivate learners to gain environmental knowledge and propose solutions via an educational process based on three different learning dimensions-objectives:
- a) The cognitive dimension: Learners will gain environmental knowledge through Problem Based Learning and IoT-STEM based activities and platforms
- b) The scientific dimension: Learners will act as scientists.
- c) The pedagogical dimension: Educators will receive the appropriate pedagogical directions to implement a teaching approach based on the principles of inclusive education through an e-learning course and open content repositories.
PARADIGM activities will result in the development of three project results:
- PR1. Design and development of an Elearning course for environmental awareness to prepare educators for applying pedagogical structured problem-based learning projects. Furthermore, it seeks to introduce environmental observatories in classrooms to be produced inspired new knowledge based on appropriate technological infrastructure.
- PR2. Design and development of IoT-STEM Based Environmental Observatories Framework. Teachers will be guided to coordinate students to manage and collect data of natural resources via an environmental data monitoring process (selection, analysis, interpretation of data on the PARADIGM platform).
- PR3. Design and development of a Citizen Science Platform serving as the PARADIGMVirtual Maker Space and Repository. Learners will discuss the results of data (findings) and propose practical solutions. They will follow guidelines agreed by the project team and engage with other European schools’ citizen scientists via the citizen science platform. Also, they will upload mini – documentaries from students potentially using vodcast, podcast, photos, digital stories, and they will take part in a collaborative contest among European schools that contributed to delivering the PARADIGM project.
